Easter Sunday 2013

Today we celebrated one of the holiest days of the year, Easter Sunday, with the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.  Christians the world over celebrated this day with the reminder of the amazing love God has for us.

I love the Easter season and all the promises the Lord gave us to enable us to live in everlasting joy.

From what I can find out from the history of Jesus, at the time the Apostle Paul wrote his letters in about 54 A.D.,  he said that more than 500 witnesses who had seen Jesus resurrected were still alive at that time.  Starting with that small group of original Christians,  within 100 years after Jesus' death, there were a million Christians.  By the time Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, about 300 years after the death of Jesus, there were about 30 million Christians, according to the World Christian Encyclopedia.  Amazingly, today, there is said to be approximately 2.1 billion Christians around the world, which makes up one-third of the world's population.

Bradfordville Baptist Church
Tallahassee, Florida

On the way to our church this morning, we drove by the beautiful Bradfordville Baptist Church with this pretty decorated cross.  I just had to go back and get a picture of this meaningful empty cross decorated in beautiful flowers to show the beauty and joy we all feel for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

After church today our family all brought a dish or two or three to our youngest daughter's home and we all celebrated this special day together.  One daughter and family was able to come all the way from Lexington, Kentucky.

I was so busy helping get everything ready I did not even think about getting a picture of the table all covered in some of the most amazingly delicious food.  There was baked ham, with fruit sauce, collard greens, green beans, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, broccoli salad, potato salad, corn pudding, salad, bean salad, jelly beans.  The dinner rolls were adorable little yeast rolls made in the shape of bunnies and there was also cornbread.  Oh! yes, and sweet tea and lemonade.  Plus, a bunny rabbit cake and I can't believe I did not get a picture of him either ... we make him every year and he is so adorable.

Our youngest daughter Sharon has four very active  boys with varied schedules but still found time to make an Easter wreath for me and for her sister Stephanie who lives here in town.

 The wreath made for Stephanie.

The wreath made for Mom.

And the wreath Sharon made for her family.

Oh! yes, another wreath she made for her dining room mirror.  You may be able to tell that it is made with Easter grass as a backdrop and has those little plastic eggs as the main decoration on the wreath.  She said it was so quick and easy to make.  I think it is so festive, colorful and cute!

Coton Colors here in Tallahassee makes these festive platters.

Mr. and Mrs. Bunny Rabbit decorations ... I just love the cute little Easter egg tray.

 An Easter candy dish.

She also made these little bunny rabbit napkins ... how cute!

I loved the way she placed these beautiful tulips in a vase full of plastic Easter eggs. I would never have thought to do that and they look so-o-o pretty.

And I just love this idea too....Easter grass decorates the bottom of this tulip filled vase.

Some more of her cute little decorations in the kitchen.

We had a delicious Easter dinner at our daughter's home and
a delightful time
visiting with all of the family.

Earlier in the week our local Tallahassee Nurseries had an eye-catching display of colorful Easter eggs for passers-by to enjoy.  I wanted to share these photos with you earlier in the week, but life was just too busy with getting ready for Easter.

It looked like the Easter Bunny had hopped by and left these huge Easter eggs, each one more colorful than the next.

I enjoy the Easter season for the main reason of course.  But, one of the other reasons is because, for us Southern girls,  it is the true official beginning of Springtime.  Here in the South, Easter marks the first day we can officially wear white shoes or light colored shoes.   Do they do that in the North as well, or is that just a Southern thing?  I'm not sure!

I sincerely hope it has been a joyous Easter season for you and for your family, and that you all will be very blessed throughout the year wherever you may be.
