Extreme cold weather has swept across almost the entire United States in a record breaking burst of early Winter. Even here in Tallahassee, which is considered the deep South, the early morning temperatures reached 21 degrees. Compared to the rest of the country we consider ourselves lucky.
Even though it was extremely cold outside it was very invigorating going to the Garden Club this morning for the annual Daffodil Garden Circle Annual Auction.
Even in the extreme freezing temperatures you can see a little Goldenrod still blooming by the fence.
Going up the side steps into the back door of the Garden Center it was delightful to see this potted multicolored croton plant and the bright orange pumpkin greeting us as we walked up the stairs.
The hostesses for today's event made an arrangement from a local
garden to highlight the dining room table.
One of the most interesting additions to this bouquet was what the ladies told me is a Butterfly Vine as seen in the below photo. Yes, as you can see, it does resemble light green butterflies. How pretty!
After the Auction, everyone enjoyed the wonderful pot-luck dishes contributed by members. The below photo shows what I was told was a Spinach Pie. I have to tell you, this quiche-type pie was completely delicious. I was also told this recipe came from Michele Obama.
When I returned home I was curious to try to find the recipe. Below is the link to this recipe in case you too are interested.
SPINACH PIE RECIPE
My daughter Sharon was such a sweet daughter to make the below wreaths for me for my contribution for the Auction.
Driving home from the meeting I began to notice all of the beautiful Fall leaves everywhere and was so glad I happened to have my camera. The extreme cold in our area must have made Mother Nature decide to get busy turning the tree leaves to their beautiful Fall colors.
As I was getting out of the car to try to capture some of the beauty of all these leaves with my camera, I looked down and saw this huge leaf on the ground. I thought it was so pretty with the smaller leaf having landed right in the center of the leaf. You can see how big this leaf is compared to my boot.
The Fall colors, even here in the deep South, are so pretty.
What a wonderful time of year with all of the beauty of Fall all around us.
Wishing for you to be warm and safe in all of the extreme early Winter cold weather, wherever you may be.
