Bainbridge, Georgia Tour of Gardens - Part One

Hello Everyone!  I'm so glad you stopped by Sweet Southern Days for a visit today.  Come along with us as we travel up to Bainbridge, Georgia to see a lovely Tour of Gardens in this small Southern town.  This town is only a short 50 minute drive along Highway 27 located north-north-west from Tallahassee.

As you can see from the below map we live very close to the Georgia State
Line and only a short drive from Bainbridge, Georgia

The Historic District of Bainbridge encompasses
most of the downtown area and surrounding streets and homes.

The Tour of Gardens was scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.   It was nice to find "The Bean Cafe" located in the heart of downtown for a bite to eat before the tour.  I had one of the very best omelettes I have ever tasted.  My sweet husband had a sandwich and soup which he too enjoyed very much.

The Bean Cafe

The Bean Cafe was located just across the square from Willis Park.

Willis Park is in the heart of downtown and is surrounded by historic buildings over 100 years old, which are now home to boutiques and antique shops.  Willis Park is a charming garden-style park complete with this Victorian-style gazebo seen below.  They tell us this gazebo hosts an annual Christmas concert and many other musical performances throughout the year.

If you look just beyond to the right of the gazebo you will see the high clock tower section of the Decatur County Courthouse, which was built in 1902.  This beautiful building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980

Willis Park

There were several beautiful very old Spanish Moss draped oak trees in the park.

Also located in Willis Park we see this Civil War Cannon.  This Cannon was cast in the year 1850.

The Cannon is a monument placed in the park to pay tribute to
the men who wore the grey and to the Confederate dead.

The flowers in and around the park were so beautiful.

At Willis Park we were greeted in the gazebo and given a map for the Tour of Gardens.

There were two gardens on the tour.  The first garden was a short distance from the heart of town.  When we arrived we were greeted by this charming volunteer and given information about the home and garden.  I loved the lovely bouquet of roses on the welcoming table.

In the below photo we see the beautiful first home and garden off in the distance.
We walked through the gate to begin our tour.

The below photo shows the main entrance to the home with the
large topiary trees on each side of the entrance.

How pretty!

As we walked around to the left side yard we saw several manicured beds of flowers and trees.

In the below photo we see a Ginkgo Tree there on the right.
These trees are so beautiful when their leaves turn golden in the Fall.

There were many different flowers in the beds including these pretty daylilies.

As we advanced on around past the entrance to the home on to the right side yard, we entered into the main area of the gardens,  which was located through the brick entrance garden gate.

As we walked forward after entering the gate we saw
this lovely arbor completely covered with Wisteria vines.

See the handsome fella with the pretty floral bag??
That is my sweet husband so thoughtfully carrying my camera bag.

Guests were greeted in the arbor and offered a nice cold glass of lemonade.

What a large and pretty candle chandelier in the middle of the arbor.

From the arbor looking to our left we see the back porch of the main house.

The serving plates on the back porch patio table were surrounded with greenery from the garden.

As we walked past the arbor we enjoyed seeing many garden features.

We walked past the garden and back yard on to the pool and pool house.

In the below photo we see the back of the house from the far side of the pool area.

This concludes the first garden on the Tour of Gardens.  I don't want to make this post too long so will continue the second part of the tour in our the next post.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and I hope you join us again for the second part of the Bainbridge, Georgia Tour of Gardens.

Wishing you a wonderful beginning of a new week and many blessings wherever you may be.
