Pretty Blossoms

We have been enjoying unusually warm temperatures here in North Florida for a couple of weeks.  After listening to the weather forecast today, they tell us the cold temperatures are rapidly approaching with rain tomorrow, and then the cold air will come sweeping into our area.

The camellias have been in bloom and have been beautiful with the nice warm temperatures.  That will all change tomorrow with the freezing temperatures that are forecast.

So with that thought in mind, I took my flower basket out today and collected an assortment of camellias with the hopes of making a pretty bouquet to enjoy.

Many years ago my husband planted lots and lots of camellia plants around the property.

The camellia bushes are really big now and I love every one of them.

Camellias are so easy to take care of once they are nicely established.  They require an azalea/camellia fertilizer, which my husband applies every two years.  Our camellias seem to do very well with partial sun.

If the weather has been dry for a good while, then we water them, but for the most part they just about take care of themselves.

They probably could use a little bug spray of some sort, because there were some bug bite holes in the leaves, but we don't take the time to do that, and the bugs do not seem to munch on the pretty flowers themselves.

I hate to think that after the cold comes in tomorrow the camellias will just about be gone, but that is one thing I especially love about being able to take pictures.....you can capture the beauty forever.

We had  our Garden Club meeting today.  The hostesses for each meeting usually make their own flower arrangement for the brunch table, but this time the ladies at Blossoms Florist here in Tallahassee created this beautiful arrangement.

Our Garden Club meeting was held at a member's beautiful home today.  She pointed out that her Lady Bankshire Rose was blooming.....They are blooming early because of our warmer temperatures lately.  Isn't that such a pretty plant in the below photo!

Also in early bloom in her yard is this huge and beautiful cherry tree in the below photo.

I enjoyed seeing the beautiful flower blossoms today, but I am also looking forward to having a bit more  wintertime.  It is such a peaceful time when it is cold outside.....Plus, maybe I will be able to stay inside and clean closets, drawers and cabinets.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by for a visit.  Wishing you a beautiful and peaceful day wherever you may be!

  1. Thank you for sharing your exquisite camellias, Pat ... and the other gorgeous flowers. It looks like Spring there!

We have had nothing but rain and cold and dreariness for the past two weeks and it is actually SNOWING as I type this! The GOOD news is that it's supposed to move out today and we have several sunny days forecast, with temperatures in the mid-50s.

I'm afraid the rains we've had are headed your way, but I'm so glad you were able to capture those beautiful flowers in their glory.

  2. Hello Janie,

Yes, I know the cold and rain can get old and make us wish for better days which it sounds like will be coming your way. Hope you enjoy the snow....it rarely snows here, and if it does it makes headlines in the newspaper. Would love to see some of your snow pictures.

So glad you enjoyed the flowers in our area.
